October is the 2nd month which I failed to keep up with my committed savings plan. The first being September when I was plagued by the indomitable shopping flu and vanity was the sole root cause! The case is different, this month. Besides footing a meager library fine of $6.25 and bagging 2 lelong-cheap Isetan tops at $13 each, I can't recall other expenses except for food and transportation. ahhh.. maybe it's the transport fare hike. Now I know where my hard-earned money has been draining to. (shall not dwell further lest I get charged for innocent but justifiable remarks :P)
No la, I'm not saying the garment no good for raising transportation costs on no strong grounds ok? The culprits for my less-than-usual savings this month are really the RED-BOMBS! I've got 3 friends getting hitched this month which resulted in 2 wedding invitations. Heng ah, Jan's wedding dinner is scheduled for December when I can expect my AWS! In any case, really feel happy for these 3 friends who are finally claiming their Mdm status after their courtship and months of preparation. Especially for Ms Emily Lie who has been soliciting for ideas, comments and inputs from her fellow then-colleagues and friends on her wedding gown, march-in music, wedding dinner venue..etc etc since more than a year ago.
I was honoured to be selected as 1 of her 6 jie meis who are privileged to hold the fort for the gate-crash, witness the tea ceremony, holding the bride's skirt as the photog and the couple combed the One Fullerton area for nice backgrounds, feast on the food prepared by the nan fang and nu fang's family and the best thing for me is, I get to wear that blue dress which only emerges from my wardrobe once in a blue moon when the occasion calls for it. Overall, the day was tiring for most of us because it started at the wee hours of 4a.m.! According to Teochew customs, the bride needs to leave the house by 6a.m. plus to avoid meeting "unlucky" events like funerals. I stayed over at Emily's to save the cab fare and was fortunate I do not have to wake up as early as 2.45a.m like other jie meis to dress up and leave the house. The daytime events ended at 2.30pm when me and ah beh rushed back to my home to catch some rest before we turn up at Meritus Mandarin to receive instructions from the bride and man the reception counter.
Miss Emily initially mooted the idea of the jie meis marching in before the couple. man, I was one of the first to object to the idea because.. I've got stage fright! And I do not want to be in any glimpse of the limelight if I was not the main lead for the day. Moreover, our evening gowns are all uncoordinated and can be quite unpleasing to the audience's eye. I was glad I did not form the minority and the idea was eventually called off. Instead, we lined ourselves up and throw up red & pink rose petals as the couple marched through the aisle. This action, coupled with dry-ice effect and the super-touching march-in music (Kelly Chan's Love Paradise, worth checking out, not a popular choice for weddings as yet, but 2 thumbs-up! added points for it being not common..), plus the blissful look on Larry and Emily's faces are enough to drive tears down our faces! A picture paints a thousand words so here goes!
